Housing a pair of fishers????

meme_cantu Sep 22, 2006 08:35 PM

Hi everybody

Im a little new on chameleons, and I'm thinking on buying a fischer cham, I love those guys, but a pair would be better, so I want to know if housing them together in a well spaced terrarium would cause problem.
Thanks for the comments

Hey there, as far as I know, most chameleons are pretty antisocial. They like the live by themelves, especially my jackson's. I'm not 100% sure in the case of the fischers, but i've read (and have had very expensive firsthand experience with this also..) that with the jackson's they can get along with each fine until they reach their sexual maturity, which i believe is about 9 months. after that, he goes after her, she doesn't want it, fighting ensues, one of them ends up in bad shape, the constant stress weakens the animal, the weakening leaves them more susceptible to illness.... it's a bad chain rxn. I wanted a pair so badly and thought they could live together until december when i moved out and had a bigger place and more room for 2 cages.

I was sadly mistaken. I came home one day to my male going after the female, and the female big, black, swaying, gaping, hissing, and just generally pissed.

$200 later, I had a second setup for the girl. what a paaaaain in the arse.
