Housing Fischer chameleons ??

meme_cantu Sep 22, 2006 09:19 PM

Hi everybody

Im a little new on chameleons, and I'm thinking on buying a fischer cham, I love those guys, but a pair(M/F) would be better, so I want to know if housing them together in a well spaced terrarium would cause problem.
Thanks for the comments

I have kept Fischer's chameleons for quite a few years now. I never keep them in pairs because it seems to be very hard on the females. I keep them in separate cages and only put them together to mate.

Maybe others will have different ideas/experiences and can tell you about them.

I have kept B. fischeri and B. fischeri multituberculatum. The B. multi males were pretty tolerant socially in a big enough cage, but I did not try housing a pair together. I have heard of keepers housing one male to 2 females, but again this was in a huge cage at least 6' on a side and just stuffed with foliage. The rule seemed to be...if you can't find the chams it is just right. I kept one B. fischeri fischeri and found him to be very shy and easily stressed. I would not recommend housing this species together at all, also because they needed a lot of space (more so than the multis).
