The Biggest Bull?

jerseyjack Sep 22, 2006 10:25 PM

A few years ago I visited the Garden State Discovery Museum on Springdale Road in Cherry Hill, NJ. They have an enormous Bullsnake on display there. When I first saw it from a distance, I thought it was some kind of a boa because it was so long and so heavy. I estimated that it was at least 8', and maybe longer. A recent string of messages on this forum asked about giant bulls, so I emailed the museum to see if they could give me some details about their bullsnake. A museum employee called me back with these incredible details. This snake is 10 years old (it has been on display since the museum opened), a female, blind in one eye, and it has been measured at 9 1/2 feet long! That's right, 9 1/2 feet! I've have seen this snake on several occasions, and I believe that that's a pretty accurate measurement. I have a 7' bull of my own, and it's puny compared to this big girl. I told them that they should send a picture into this forum because I'm sure most people will think I am exaggerating, but if you live in the Southern NJ/Philadelphia area, go visit the museum and see for yourself. You'll be amazed!

Wow that's amazing. I'd love to see some pictures. Did they say where the snake was from? Wild caught or captive bred?

No, I didn't ask them about whether it was wild caught or captive bred. It looks kinda like a salt-and-pepper morph of some kind, so I guess I assumed that it was captive bred. Although the contact person mentioned that since she (the snake, not the person) was blind in one eye, she could never be released into the wild. Another reason I think it was CB is because they seemed to know exactly how old she was. I mentioned to the employee that they should go to this site and put some pics on. I hope some other pit enthusiast who lives in the vicinity goes to the museum so that they can confirm what I'm saying about this monster pit. Anyone who wants more info can contact them by going to the Garden State Discovery Museum website and emailing them. They will get back to you pretty quickly.

Great! I hope they know to include a human in the pic so that everyone can compare.

Yes preferably a 10 foot human holding the snake up by the tip of its tail!
