my rat snake is darker

my rat snake is alot darker than the ones in the pics below, he is about two feet is that why

but sometimes its as simple as the fact that two snakes can look quite different. here is a picture of one of mine that is about 11 months and 30 inches at the time of the photo. (Yeah Dwight, he's getting real big fast.)
