suggestions in NY

snakesnatcher Sep 23, 2006 03:35 PM

Hey
I just moved to NYC from Miami and I need suggestions on herping. Is there any roads i could cruise near the Hamptons that are worthy of trying out? I had to give up my collection because of course they are not allowed in the dorms, but I need my fix of reptiles. If anyone knows of any snakey roads I could perhaps find something on I would most appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Dan,

I'm not familiar with L.I. but live upstate. One thing you'll find, is that road cruising in the north, isn't as effective as it is in the SOuth. You'll likely have to find good habitat and hike the trails in the area.

depending on what you want to see road cruising is pretty much obsolete cept for amphibians and some turtles, your best bet is to find a illegal dumpsite, and flip trash or set up AC in good looking habitat, get permission first. road crusing on rainy spring nights you can see some stuff, spotted salamanders, spring peepers etc... good luck
