Savu & Macklott's pythons

derekmoynihan Sep 23, 2006 06:33 PM

Can anyone tell me what the main differences are in these pythons? Also, I see savu's for sale from time to time but they aren't the dark purpleish/black with the white belly specimens, they look like what people call Macklott's, kind of light brown and heavily spotted.

Savu hatchlings are orange with white bellies. They get more grey and black scales with each shed. Macklot's start out with kind of a grey color. And Savus are smaller.

If you do choose to get either of these snakes, I would definately suggest getting a hatchling. These species have a tendancy to be nippy which can be overcome with consistant handling, but if you we're to buy an older animal there's a good chance it won't have been handled as much as you would like. So get em' small while the bites still don't hurt.
