OPINIONS WANTED ON DIGITAL CAMERA PLEASE

snakeman3005 Sep 23, 2006 10:28 PM

Hello,
I am looking to buy my first digital SLR camera in the near future and I just would like some of your thoughts or opinions. I know most of you guys own/use these cameras and are pretty knowledgeable in this area. I originally wanted to go with a Nikon, However, my selection is limited. I have been looking at the Canon EOS 30D, are these just as good as the Nikons? any advantages/disadvantages? Also Another camera I was looking at was the Canon Rebel XT. Any thoughts would be appreciated to help me select an excellent camera.

How about Olympus? any good?

Thanks much!
Best regards,
Jason

Jason, I'm sure there are certain brands that are better than others, but for me, the 2 main fetaures are 5 megapixel or larger and the "no shaky thing" forget what that's called for real but it's a huge time saver, especially when you're shooting moving animals and you have to get the shot fast before they move again. Hope that helps, Dale

Jason, The Canon 30D is a great camera. It's the same as the 20D(which I have) with a few improvements. I've been product loyal to Canon for over 25 years and I consider them to be the best. Also they have a larger variety of lenses and accessories. But remember it's not so much the camera as it is the person behind the camera. Take care and good luck. Andrew

but Cannon is just as good. I just happen to have started out with Nikon and have lots of lenses for it. I actually take regular 35mm film still but I order a disk at the time they develop my film for a small fee. Usually a few bucks. I do have an olympus for posting on here that has macro capability and is good enough for ads and such. I can take pretty close up pics of my snakes with it but you can't add lenses or anything so if you want it just to post things on here it is a good camera but if you are interested in serious photography go with the Nikon or Cannon.
Here is a picture taken with just the simple olympus set on macro
