Small Tortoises

coastalherper Sep 24, 2006 02:16 PM

Hi, I currently keep one Russian Tortoise and I love him, I plan to get another this October. What are some other "small" tortoises that can be kept in a 4'x2' or smaller? I would have them in a 6'x6' outdoor pen in the summer.
Thanks in advance!

I really liked spider tortoises (Pyxis arachnoides), they are small (less than 5 inches) and very hardy. They are also reasonably price as well on kingsnake.

Other small tortoises to consider:

Egyptian tortoise (Testudo kleinmanni)
Greek tortoise (Testudo gracea)
Indian star tortoise (Geochelone elegans)

***The above tortoises ranges from $100 to $500 each for hatchlings****

If you are willing to spend $1,000 for each tortoises consider the following as well:

Flat-shelled tortoise (Pyxis planicauda)
Burmese star tortoise (Geochelone platynota)
Chaco tortoise (Geochelone chiliensis)
Impressed tortoise (Manouria impressa)

All the above tortoises are between 5 inches to 10 inches maxed.
