Tell me what to do!

pspguy Aug 05, 2003 06:11 PM

Okay, if you've read these forums for awhile you know I have chronic eating problems. My question to you is: Do I continue putting food in each day to see if Nannar wants to eat, or just let her go without having access to any? And if so, how long?

Offer her food daily and if one insect doesn't do it for her, switch. In my experience, the little ones can't resist crickets but aren't all that interested in mealworms or waxworms. Figure out what she'll eat and then let her eat as much as she wants of whatever she wants.

How long have you had her and how long has she not been eating?

pspguy Aug 05, 2003 07:51 PM

I've had her almost 6 weeks, and she has eaten only once in that time.

Where did you get her from? How old/big is she? Could she be impacted? When she ate the one time, was the stool solid or runny?
Does she was water available at all times? Calcium? What are the temps in her enclosure (warm side/cool side)? Have you had a fecal done? What substrate is she on?

To get some nutrition in her and enough stool for a fecal if necc., I suggest making a mix of

1 tsp turkey baby food
1/3 tsp peach/orange/papaya juice
pinch calcium
small pinch herp vitamins
8-10 drops flax seed oil

Put in a 1cc oral syringe and squeeze a small amt onto the tip of her mose and see if she licks off. When she starts licking, gently squueze mixture from syringe to keep up with her licking. Do not insert syringe into mouth to force feed, let her take what she wants.

She has had stools, they have all looked normal. I got her from a place here in Virginia Beach called Pet Discounters (Yeah I know, but she was my first). She will eat jump start from a syringe no problem, but she will not eat on her own... Her temps are 88.3 hot side, and 77.8 cool side.....

Hmmm

I would get a fecal done, sometimes a low level worm infection can mess appetite. Are her suroundings relatively stress free- e.g. Quiet, w/ good private hiding spavces? If she is in a glass tank try covering 3 sides w/ paper, this can add to their sense of security.

Try the mix I gave the recipe for, my geckos devour it, even when sick, I think something about the flavour they love, and it provides excellent nutrition. I would try feeding this mix daily for one week, offering no food for one day, then the next day offering mealworms and a couple crix. and of course if the fecal turns up anything, get it treated.

Try raising warm side temp to 90°

try this....
don't offer food for 2 days. then, place her in a plastic deli cup (that she can't climb out of) with a couple crickets. put the cup on the warm side of the tank and leave her overnight. i did this when my hatchlings weren't eating and it worked great.
