Boaphile racks

Bayside Sep 24, 2006 07:40 PM

So I'm about to start amassing some leopard gecko breeding stock and want to house them efficiently. Naturally, I was recommended to Boaphile. I searched around their site and found this...

http://www.boaphileplastics.com/smallshoerack.html

It's a 10 drawer shoe box rack. According to Boaphile, each individual tub measures approximately 13.25" x 8.25" x 4.125". Is that big enough to house a single adult gecko?

That is too small for adults. I house hatchlings/juvies in those.
For single adults you need sweater box size.
Boaphiles are good I woulld also cheack out animal plastics. I have both kinds and they both work great.

I figured as much. What about this rack?

Pair that up with a Ranco thermostat and I should be in good shape. I'm going to house females in trios and males alone. I may even divide 2 of the tubs the long way and keep two males per tub?

Those are the exact same tubs that I use, except mine are in melamine racks. I put 2-3 females in each, and then move my males between tubs. Some breeders house up to 6 animals in 1 of those. I feel that is a little crowded but I guess it works.

More animals = more poo

That's pretty much what I'm going to do. A normal hide, and a humid hide. I'm going to keep a dish of calcium in at all times and feed primarily gut loaded crickets and mealworms. I'm not going to house more than 3 females per tub, but probably 1 per tub while my collection grows.

Kelly-I actually really like that sideways box. I really like the flexibility of it. I can have 4 big tubs and 2 small ones on the bottom for misc babies and stuff like that. Maybe I'll go that route! If you want to order one with me, we can get that special. Let me know.

That would be awesome! Unfortuanately, I'm probably not ordering until the early November. I can't wait! I'm going to have some cash from (hopefully) 2 hedgehog litters.

That is a good rack. Personally, I'm entertaining the idea of purchasing the 5 blanket drawer sideways. I like this rack because you can get a combination of blanket boxes & sweater boxes.

Good luck!
