ALBINO QUESTIONS

jam_band Sep 24, 2006 08:18 PM

I have a normal female and a male that is 100 percent het. for albino.

If I breed the normal female and Het. Albino male will I have 50 percent Het. offspring?

Now here's the real question:
Is there a chance of getting an albino if I breed the 100 percent het. albino father with one of the 50 percent het.albino offspring?

Thanks!

Think of it this way...

An animal is either a normal (AA), a het. (Aa), or a homozygote (aa). Your 100% het, is guaranteed to have one albino gene, and one regular. Now if you breed him to a normal female all the resulting offspring will be 50% possible hets, meaning that they either did or did not receive the gene from dad. Now lets say that you took one of your 50% het females from this breeding, and bred her back to dad(100% het ablino) and produced albino offspring from this pairing. In this case, if visible albinos are produced your 50% het female, is now a 100% het, since she "proved" her het status in that breeding.

Hope this helps,
Dan
