Owies T-T (Claws and food)

Velox_415 Sep 24, 2006 08:21 PM

I adopted a beardie dragon today :D He's a big fella.. with big sharp claws T_T I was holding him just now when my dog came in and freaked him out and he totally clawed my wrists and hand to hell and back. I know he didn't mean to but it still hurt like.. some very hurtful thing. I put him right back in the tank after that lest he get any more stressed and went to pour some alcohol over my wounds. Anyways! Looks like I made a very bad suicide attempt oO! Even just gently holding him I got some minor red welts from his claws.. anyone know anything that can be done about that or will I just have to grin and bear it?

One other thing.. with the bd came this bearded dragon pellet food? I can't really find much about this stuff, is it good for him at all or is it like that 'anole food' dead bug crap Zoomed tries to sell to people who don't know any better? Apparantly he's been raised on this stuff, sooo.. *shrugs* Just MHO right here but I'd think fresh foods would be a lot healthier for him.

Sorry to hear about the shreading incident. I clip nails on just about everything I own and I don't hesitate to clip dragon claws either. I use human nail clippers and just clip the tip of the nail. You don't cut them back like for a dog but just "disarm" the point. I have never drawn blood but if you do by accident you can pack the toe with corn starch to stop the bleeding.

As for the pellets I use rep cal pellets but only once or twice a week. I feed fresh veggies daily. Fresh veggies such as endive, mustard greens, collards, etc are an important part of thier diet. Beautiful Dragons website has a great veggie list. Good luck with your new dragon.
