Moving Snakes Cross County

downway69 Sep 24, 2006 09:16 PM

I am moving from Michigan to Arizona and planning on transporting my JCP and 2 Cal King's with me in my car. Has anyone ever transported snakes across the country? How do you suggest I do this? I heard that I should place them in pillow cases inside a cooler to regulate their temperature during the journey. Please elaborate on this or any other methods you know to work. Thank you!

I moved all of my snakes cross country from MA to IL, and then back again (whole other story). I do not keep carpets yet, but I did have a cal. king with me both times. On the way down I kept my bp's in pillow cases in tubs to reg. temp. I kept the cal king on the seat beside me in her plastic tub. It was very hot outside and I made a mistake, I kept the cal king in the sun. I thought he would be OK and not get any direct sun light, but I was wrong. The tub heated WAY up and the cal king died as a result. I purchased a new cal king while in IL and had better luck during the transport back to MA. I kept the heat on in the truck (it was winter) but I kept two windows slightly cracked with a thermometer on the floor and one in the dash cup holder. It was a probe therm. so the therm. on the dash gave me both readings. I had to adust the heat a little here and there, but moving my small collection was much safer on the way back. -J.H.-
