You could tame him, but I always let wild caught specimens back in the wild. I use them more for observation and field notes.

How big is he/she? I try not to take anything over 3' from the wild. My WC fem was alittle over 2' when I caught her last year.

Given the low cost and availability of CB, why bother???

Without frequent and regular(no sustained breaks) interaction, nervous snakes will quite often remain nervous snakes for life. While it is true that most will calm down, but many don't.

IMHO so long as it hasn't been in contact with any of your other animals, you should put it back where you found it.

If it has been in contact (ANY CONTACT AT ALL!) with your other animals (shared utensils, casual contact, etc.) you are likely stuck with it.

I agree. As long as strict quarantine procedures have been followed, it should be safe to release it exactly where it was found.

I'm guessing early evening would be a good time to do so.
That is a guess, based upon the fact that most kings I find are found in early to mid evening (I don't do night driving).

If you caught him legally, you should keep it. It is no longer part of nature. It will calm down with frequenthandling( not at meal time, shed time, wait a few days after it has eaten, watch out for the poo)! try using a snake hook to get him out first, then handle. Having a wild caught is ok if you are up to the conditioning. A c.b. is best for most, but nothing wrong with a w.c. Besides, if you don't let it go exactly where you got it, it probably won't survive. My .02.
