Should I interfer?

kcaj Sep 25, 2006 01:44 AM

Hi all, I have a pair of Christmas Mts alterna which bred for the first time this season. She laid 4 eggs, but; only one has survived, the hatchling piped yesterday, there are 3 long slits in the egg shell and frothy bubbles, but; the hatchling hasn't made an appearence yet. It has been more that 24 hours should I help or just wait it out? My corns just seem to be out in a few hours so I don't know what to do with these graybands. Any help would be appreciated thanks. Jack

I would cut a little window in the top of the egg. Make it large enough for the hatchling to get out of & leave it like that. In a day or two the baby should come out on it's own. In my experiance nothing good ever comes out of forcing a hatchling out of it's egg..

Let us know how it goes..

Well the little fella/lady finally made its appearence and looks to be heathly. When I first saw it, it looked like a pyro with dull red/black/white alternating rings, but; it does have the standard grayband head. It actually doesn't look like either of the parents go figure.

Hi Steven, I will post a picture of the baby, whenever I figure out what I am doing wrong. I was given a Canon 50A supershot digital camera, it works fine. I went to the store and bought a flash card reader so I could upload my pictures onto my computer. I installed the reader onto my computer. I then inserted the camera flash card with my pictures into the reader and uploaded it to my computer. The screen on my computer tells me that it was successful. I remove the flash card and reinstall it in my camera and it is empty all the pictures have been removed from the flash card, good right? Well the problem is I can't find the pictures anywhere on my computer, You must consider the fact that I am computer illiterate. I know how to turn on my computer and do one key at a time typing and maybe a little bit more. But I can't find the pictures. So either the pictures have been deleted or they are hiding somewhere in my computer. Any suggestion's would be helpful. Jack

I assume you are on windows XP... The PC may have moved the pictures to your "My Pictures" directory... But that is a guess, if you used the software that came with the camera it could be in other places. To check there you just need to open up your My Documents, usually there is an icon for it on the desktop/background. If not click on your start button and see if it is listed there. Once in My Documents you will see a My Pictures directory, and that is the first place to look.

If that does not turn them up, then you can search your hard drive. Click on Start -> Search --> in the left column look for all files and foldres (or you may see this in the right hand pop-out), select that --> you should see an option for Look in now, do "All Hard Drivers". In the box under "All or part of the filename" do a search for *.jpg

This will search out all the pictures on your PC, and tell you where they were found. You may end up with a lot to look through, but should find it.

Thanks LB, I will try and find them using you helpful instructions. They are not in my pictures or my documents, I have already found those places. I will try your other suggestions and hopefully they are lurking somewhere in my computer and I didn't lose them. I had some really narly ones of me all black and blue. From when a flight of wooden stairs, leading up to a deck, came crashing down when I was just putting my foot on to the deck at the top, It really hurt. Fell about nine feet down, the bruises were awesome though. Thanks Jack
