What are you guys using to make your custom rocks? Is it just sealed plaster?

I am using disposable cake tins to provide the shape. They are easily deformed and cut, and are very light weight.

I use strips of newspaper covered in wet plaster to build up the rock - on the inside and outside. I put it on thick in some areas and try to give it a rough texture.

After the plaster is dry I paint it with acrylic paints. I use a sponge to dab lighter paint over the dark paint base to make it look more realistic and to give it the appearance of texture. I have an acrylic sealer, but I haven't been using it on the rocks just because the paint seems to seal it pretty well, and I don't like waiting for the sealer to dry. But it would probably be a good idea to use it. I'm just impatient.

I'm sure there are other ways to do it. Probably easier ways. But this is what works for me with the resources I have.
