My second snake visitor of the week----this one is much bigger than the baby eastern milk snake you guys id'ed for me earlier in the week.

He is about 2 1/2 feet long and ANGRY!! After I snapped the pic, he puffed his body up, and tried to strike at me twice and then slithered off into the woods.

He has a yellowish stripe down his spine and a checkerboard pattern everywhere else.

I am in Maryland.

Thanks!

Looks like a harmless eastern garter snake.

Thank you!

I used to have a friend who had a pet blue stripped garter snake and this guy was much fatter than that snake.

He was very attractive, but did not want to be picked up!!

Big Fat Garters are usually the girls. They have live babies in the fall (I think?) and that may be why she was fat and defensive. Some Gartes can be quite fiesty, and will bite, musk, and poop.

Thanks for posting your snaky visitors!
