What's a big eyed rat snake?

donv Sep 25, 2006 09:33 PM

I saw an add in the ratsnake classifieds for captive bred big eyed ratsnakes. Does anybody know what exactly these are? Are they constrictors or more of a racer? Size? Temperment etc.? Thanks in advance for any info. Don

It is more of a large "racer" than a "ratsnake". Don't know much about their care, however.

I saw the ad too. I called and ordered a pair on Sunday evening, along with a carinata. All three animals were put on hold as a shop owner friend of mine expressed a possible interest.

When my friend called on Tuesday to have them dropped off at his shop he was told the male was no longer available and the dealer had only put them on hold for Sunday. After a series of phone calls I get told that my pair is now on back order and no mention at all of the carinata.

As to the snake it self, I had limited experience with one. They seem to require moist condititions as babies and are supposed to be frog feeders then, though I heard of at least one going for mice.

Large snakes, getting over 9 ft I do believe, and rear fanged. I searched for info after seeing that ad as well.
