Surinams born Sunday before I got back

dyagi Sep 25, 2006 10:24 PM

from Anahiem is bitter sweet. Found the father of this litter dead. He was a wild caught from Mike at MNR back in 2002. I should of gotten him checked for parasites the day I got him. Even though he acclimated well in captivity, when it came time for breeding he got stressed and lost a lot of weight. Even after breeding I should've taken him to a vet. A big lesson learned the hard way again, for me... anyways my life story. But it was sweet to go to the other room and see these babies. I see a lot of hold backs for me lol.
Thanks for looking and hope U all have many successful breeding seasons.
Regards,
Derek

I remember a few breeders who have had one of the parents die from stresses of breeding, the male during or before they were born, or the female shortly after. It is always nice to have the babies to keep their legacy!

congrats on the litter Derek. sorry to hear about the sire, looks like you got some nice babies out of it though.

I am sorry you lost the male, that is always hard. Don't beat yourself up over it though, that doesn't help. The babies look fantastic. Did one or both parents have missing saddles like that one baby in the first pic?

P.S. You just helped me make up my mind to get my wild caught female tested for parasites even though she seems quite healthy, thanks.
