I have eggs???

SlipKorn Aug 05, 2003 07:09 PM

Yesterday I was given a 5 foot normal corn female by a friend who couldn't care for it anymore. He has only had this one snake for about 4 years. Yesterday I brought it home and I'm letting it settle in for about 3 days before I feed it. This morning I checked her out and I found 2 eggs. I know they are infertile because she hasn't been with another male. That was about 10 hours ago and she hasn't laid anymore. I know that sometimes they have eggs that form without mating and have to lay them so is this the case with her? Also will it be safe to feed her tomorrow and will she eat provided that she is settled in? Is it safe to handle her or should I just leave her along for a few days? Thanks.

are you sure they are eggs? If the corn has not been with another snake she can't really lay eggs...although it has happened before.
Snake "pee" in whitish-yellowish hard masses, called urates. There usually is some liquid accompanying it, unless the snake is dehydrated.
Was there any liquid expelled with the 'eggs'?
Have you ever seen corn snake eggs before, and urates?
can you post a picture?

Hope this helps........

Nope not urates. I know what they are. I am 100% sure that these are eggs. They are about 1 and a half inches long, leathery shell, NO liquid, they had been there long enough for them to stick together like snake eggs do. I am POSITIVE that these are eggs. I am also positive that they are only duds because there are only 2 and I can't feel anymore in her. I know for a fact that she has never been in contact with another snake of any kind for at least 4 years.

If it was me... and I'm really just saying if it was me... I'd hold onto 'em until you were really sure that they were dead. Strange things happen. Especially if the snake is any older than five.

I'm with you on this one....I'd try incubating them until they go bad....

It's about .1% that they are good and 99.9% that they are bad but I have them incubating anyway. They're still looking pretty good. I'll give an update in a few days. Thanks everyone for trying to help.
