Now that i've got my russians setup in a large enclosure where they can lay eggs (has 10" of dirt... my big female deposited eggs in it last week), I'm trying to plan for future breeding. I'm really interested in breeding this species because I think it's a species that doesn't get enough credit, and it's important to have a somewhat steady supply of captive bred specimens, but I also don't want to get in over my head with it.

Right now I have two females and a juvi male. I'm thinking about buying another (Breeding age) male and another female in the near future so I could deworm them and quarantine them in time for spring. The ones I'm looking at specifically are a female that was housed with my larger female, and the male that mated with her this year.

The idea is that the females can live together all year round and I can rotate the males in. Sound about right?

What other info does anyone have to contribute? I know there are people here that have bred russians before, so I thought it would be a good place to try to gather any obscure info. Also, I don't plan on hibernating any of them this year. The female that just laid eggs for me has been bred on a fairly regular basis with no real hibernation. Naturally the cage is going to get a little cooler in the winter, and I'll probably change their light cycle, but I doubt I will be doing any actual cooling. I haven't had them long enough to feel comfortable doing that.
