Our 1st Hatchlings 1st Home

sd2fast4u Sep 26, 2006 10:59 AM

Here is a pic of our little Eastern Box's first indoor home. He survived outside in the big turtle pen for a little while before we noticed he had hatched, but now he is safe inside. I have not seen him eat yet, but the tiny crickets keep disappearing, and the little turtle is very active, So, I guess all is well. Just wanted to share another pic. I hope everyone is doing well, and getting their turts and torts ready for winter.

just a note of caution for you, crickets will chew on the hatchling and cause wounds, I think they'd probly be too fast for him to catch as well, unless you removed the hind legs.

Cute baby!

I highly recoomend that you try feeding your hatchling Reptomin food sticks. Place the hatchling in a container with just enough water to cover the bottom of the container. Then place the Reptomin sticks and hatchling inside. Leave the room for a while and then come back and check on it. You will know then if it has eaten or not by the missing food and bite marks.

Be sure to try small cut up worms and live pill bugs (potato bugs) as well. It is very important that you know your little guy is eating.
