PALM BEACH POST (Florida) 26 September 06 Lizard wizard's wily ways wiggle gig on 'Letterman' (Andrew Marra)
West Palm Beach: Lily Capehart, West Palm Beach's 10-year-old "Lizard Whisperer," will charm and dress up six tiny lizards from her back yard tonight for David Letterman and a national television audience.
Capehart was invited to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman with some of the cold-blooded subjects of Lizard-Ville, a tiny reptilian world that Capehart creates by dressing lizards in doll clothes and placing them in un-lizard-like settings.
Her father, a photographer, snaps shots of the lizards holding cups, riding toy motorcycles, lying about in tiny lounge chairs. The hard-to-believe photos have won her coverage in the local and national news media, and now have attracted the attention of Letterman's show.
Capehart and her parents will fly to New York City today for the afternoon taping. The show airs at 11:30 p.m. on CBS.
The Lizard Whisperer, a student at the Academy of the Palm Beaches, says she is excited and "just a bit" nervous about her national television debut. She and her parents have shipped six lizards to New York.
"I caught them yesterday," Capehart said Monday.
Her family is transforming her hobby into a small business. Greeting cards bearing photos of the citizens of Lizard-Ville can be bought online, and photos have been sold at a museum exhibit.
Capehart said she has never seen Letterman's show but observed that he "looks funny." She will share the stage with actor Billy Bob Thornton and musical guest Sean Lennon, son of the late Beatle John Lennon.
