KTSM (El Paso, Texas) 25 September 06 Las Cruces Animal Shelter Recovering
Rather than killing a snake that appears in your yard, the Las Cruces Reptile Rescue program urges people to call them.
They'll come catch it for you.
They had a shelter for these snakes and other reptiles until they could be released into the wild.
Someone recently broke into the shelter and did considerable damage.
On Sunday, several Las Crucens united in an effort to bring the program back.
In an effort to raise funds, the band Whiskey Dust performed at the Court Youth Center in Downtown Las Cruces.
Mike Daniels is the Rescue Director for the shelter. The shelter also served as his home.
More than fifty of the reptiles were either killed, stolen or beaten and left for dead.
The Dona Ana Sheriff's Department is still investigating the case, but have made no arrests.
By the looks of how the shelter was left, police believe it was more than one person.
Close to $1,000 in donations were received by today's benefit concert.
25 aquarium tanks were also donated.
If you'd like to donate, you can call Mike Daniels at (505)312-3208 or visit their website at www.awesomereptiles.com
Please call the Dona Ana Sheriff's Dept. at (505) 525-1911 for any information regarding the vandilization.
