Rompin: A student who tried to avoid running over an animal on the road ended up getting killed himself when his car smashed into an oil palm tree.
State Public Order and Traffic chief Supt Mohd Fauzi Abdul Rahim said on Monday eyewitnesses reported that Mohd Hamdan Mohd Yassin, 18, swerved out of the way when he spotted a large monitor lizard crossing Jalan Kota Bahagia about 8am on Sunday.
Mohd Hamdan of Felda Palong 9 crashed into a tree and died on the spot.
About an hour later in Bera, Felda settler Mohd Illias Hashim, 56, lost control of his motorcycle and went into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.
The two machines collided and Mohd Illias, from Felda Sebertak, died on the way to a clinic.
