Help! Carpet python won't eat!

e&t Sep 26, 2006 08:32 PM

Hi, I have a carpet python that's about 18 inches long (Irian Jayan) and he won't eat. I've tried tease feeding, putting the mouse in his tank for days on end, and putting him in a small container with the mouse. I've tried pinkies, fuzzies, and hoppers, and none of them work. He's in a 20-gallon long terrarium.

TRY BRAINING YOUR MICE

it works!! i JUST got back from doing it.

i m new to keeping snakes, i bought my first baby ball python at NARBC last saturday...which was only 4 days ago.....and i also bought a bunch of pinkies and froze them myself.

well i thawed one out..and i tried to make my ball eat it. i left it alone, then i nudged the pinky against the snake's nose...but she REFUSED to eat!!! i was so sad, the snake was acting like she was really afraid of the pinky. like, realy afraid of it. i don t think it even recognized the pinky as food.

then i remembered that the lady who i bought it from said i mite have to try braining. and i did..i got a needle and i cut the head of the mouse open, so the skull n brain was exposed.

this time...i was using chopsticks...and i lowered the mouse in...and like, the snake IMMEDIATELY struck!! it was scary how fast the snake moved. and it was such a huge difference, before, it refused to eat and would not even go near it, but after i brained the pinky, she struck at it sooo fast and proceeded to eat it.

but it worked! try braining
