This is like a dream house... I do not think I have heard of denning like this in a manmade structure before though? Is this a new thing, or just new to me?

I do have to give them some credit, while they may be freaking out on the inside, they sound like they are trying to think a few things through.

My great aunt has a house near palm springs that has sidewinders which use the foundation as a hibernaculum.
If that was my house since it is remotely located and the snakes are just garters I would remove them from the house and construct a hibernaculum for them nearby.
I would dig a hole 6 feet deep X 6 feet square, fill it up with broken cinderblock to a depth of 3 feet above ground and pile dirt up to almost level with the top and lay carpet on top. Bushes could then be planted around it so it's obscured from view.
