Chameleon eyes

RyanDonnelly Sep 27, 2006 11:41 AM

I came home from work yesterday and my chameleons eye was bubbled out like he was pushing it out. Ive seen my female do this before and rub it on the branch like she had something in it but it went right back to normal. I woke up this morning and his eye still wasnt back i gave hime a shower to clean it out and it is still puffed up... With my work schedule and the times the vet is open i cant get him in until monday. any advice??? Thanks a lot..... Ryan

When my female arrived she her eye was puffy and closed because it was dry and of course irritated her. On recommendation from the breeder I got something from Target called Refresh Tears in the eye drop section and within 3 days she was better. However if it is an infection then it won't cure it. So a vet visit is always best. Good Luck!!

A vet visit is a good idea. Something you can do to ease and possibly help clean the eye is to flush it with sterile contact lens rinse solution. It is basically saline and will not sting like plain water will. Squirt the stream right at the iris so it really gets flushed. He'll close his eye, but keep this up for a minute or so. Some fluid will get in and may help. Raising your cage humidity level will help keep him more comfortable too.
