Yes, that is a canebrake rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus "atricaudatus". There was some dispute regarding whether or not canes were a subspecies of timber rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus), with the consensus being that they are a geographic varient as opposed to a subspecies. I put the "atricaudatus" in quotes to reflect this, because sometimes you see them referred to as C.h.atricaudatus.

I've seen the photo before... check www.snakesofarkansas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1650&highlight=game camera

Supposedly it is in Arkansas or Missouri, so call it whatever name you call them from that region I guess.

Yep, that was the original pic. I was e-mailed the pic this morning from my boss for identification. I had to crop the pic and convert to a jpg and downsize it to post it. If this is a real pic and the game camera went off, he was asking who set off the infrared sensor. I said it was most likely the deer. He said that it could have been the snake. Could a cold blooded trigger a infrared sensor if it is the same temp as the ambient air? I figure it is possible if it comes off of a rock or road that it had been sunning on. Your thoughts?
