Wax worms....

JESSICA51202 Aug 05, 2003 08:54 PM

Ok so I kind of have a problem. So since I made the mistake of buying wax worms, I've only been feeding them every other feeding or so, well I've noticed that my bigger leo hasn't been eating crickets, and the minute I put the mealworm dish in (with about 2 wax worms, 1 for each) he goes right for the wax worms...and after he eats those, goes for the mealworms. My younger leo has no problems eating crickets/mealworms. So my question is, how do I ween my bigger one off of the wax worms? I'm thinkin' just to stop giving them to him, and he'll eat when he's hungry, cuz he shouldn't starve himself right? Thanks in advance.

I had a similiar problem. Keep mealies in for the little ones and have an albino that wouldn't touch crickets. I did 1 night with no food for him at all but left the calcium bowl in the cage(familiarity). The next night I gave him 1 mealie with a bunch of crickets(4-6) with the legs clipped off so they couldn't get out of the bowl. Leave 2-3 legs intact so they can move around in the bowl a bit btw.

Haven't had a problem since and he will eat both freely now. Also eats grasshoppers and such when I toss them in. Maybe it's a taste preference.

It wouldn’t be bad for your leo to go cold turkey with the waxworms. As long as you have crix and mealies around, your guy won’t starve.
