Late season clutch

FunkyRes Sep 29, 2006 01:52 AM

It has been well over a decade since I have had a cal king lay eggs.

I remember them being a lot more elongates.

Mating was witnessed on August 8th, the female continued to feed well after the mating. The male was not "properly" brumated.

Any comments on the health of the eggs?

She laid a dozen. Doesn't look like she has any more in her, but I left the nesting box in just in case.

Very cool, they look fine to me. Hope they all hatch for you.

Thanks. Colour wise they looked fine to me, I just distinctly remember them being a lot more sausage shaped than roundish.

I guess there's variation.

You're talking to a guy who keeps every single egg that pops out of a snakes rear. Shape size color......whatever,,,,,,,if it is an egg I try and incubate it. You can always throw them away later. Tom Stevens

Very cool. I'd like to breed my WC fem Cal King next year, but all my friends w/ eligible males are not going to brumate them over the winter. How big is the female that laid the eggs? How old is she? The father was one of your WC males?

She is just over 4 feet long by a few inches.
She has not been acurately measured, but when crawling around in a tub that was 2' x 2' - she did a perimeter run, and was just a little bit longer than two sides.

I do not know how old she is. I purchased her in August, and broke quarantine rules to allow her to mate with my male.

My male is wild caught, collected in 2000. He is also just over 4 feet, about the same size she is.

She ate while gravid, ate like a pig. Ate three adult mice just four days before laying. Now, she's skinnier than I would like - I'm very glad she did eat while gravid, or she'd be even skinnier.

I gave her a pair of mice today, which she quickly gobbled. I'm going to wait a few days and then offer her as many as four if she will take them (I'm currently out of mice, can't get any until Monday)
