Possible Emotion?

nate7667 Sep 29, 2006 01:52 AM

After owning my snake for a while, my consensus has been that snakes are fairly emotion-less and operate on basic instinct only. But recently I've noticed when 2 Balls curl up together they often put their heads right next to eachother. Is their possibly some emotion beneath the scaly surface? Your thoughts?

I had tow Ball pythons since they were hatchlings and they were kept together untill recently. They alsways slept together moved around there tank together. I had to seperate them becasue they were male and female . The male is 450 grams and and the female is about 800 grams and i didnt want them to breed. I seperated them 3 weeks ago since then my male would not eat. I took them both out and let them together they curled around each other and layed there. After i took them apart he ate finally. Is it emotion? Dont know But i think it is as close to it as you can get.

I have been working with reptiles for 37 years and I am a firm believer that they do have emotions . What do you think fear and aggression , are they are emotions. I also think they have a full range of emotions , maybe not the same as you and I but they do feel happy and sad and can morn loss . It has long been established that long term captives kept together and then separated will morn their companion .

Is it better to now keep them totally seperated. Or should i continue outside of thier tanks to let them be together? That male is one of my best eaters always has been.

Well now that they have been separated I would leave it that way I feel it is always better and healthier to house them separately , if one gets sick it wont affect the others normally.
Just remember not to start something you may not wont to keep that way!

I agree . In the futer i will not house them together. I felt so bad seperating them.. Thank you melinda

I did leave out that you can still allow them to be together out of there cages every once in a wile and of caurse if you let them breed thay will need to be together hahahaha!!
GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOU DO !!!!
