New male

gecko_shawn Sep 29, 2006 11:06 AM

Hey everybody, I've had my female red crestie for a year now since she was a baby, and just introduced an adult male to her inclosure 3 days ago. I know moving can be stressful on them, and a new addition can cause friction sometimes, so heres my question...my female acted like nothing happened, still has a great appetite, just as active, no problems, but the new male hasn't eaten anything yet that I can see...he's very active and is acting otherwise normal, they curl up together in the foliage to sleep, everything seems good, he just hasn't eaten yet. Is this normal? Like I said its only been day 3, everything else seems normal. sorry for the long post

Thanks alot
Shawn

Yeah it's pretty normal for them not to eat for a few days after being moved. But you may want to try hand feeding him some baby food or cgd. Use your finger or a little spoon and if he doesn't eat it right off the spoon, dab some on his nose so he has to lick it off. Just keep an eye on him.

I'd agree that geckos will go through a fasting period after first moving into their new place... it's a "getting settled" thing. Mine did not eat for about 1-2 weeks after getting them. Let your little guy settle in for a few day, and continue to offer food in the enclosure so that he can eat once he feels comfortable. And like Smith suggested, f you get worried, just dab a bit of CGD onto his snout and let him lick it off (tho I have found that this tends to make the acclimating process go a bit slower b/c it stesses the new gecko. I waitied to try this with my second gecko until he was here for 2 weeks, and he seemed to take it a bit better than my first gecko. This does not take into account any personality differences in the geckos tho. My second one was always less flighty than the first).
Anyway, good luck with the new guy & keep us updated.
