I just got this little one. I am not sure if it is a boy or girl yet but it sure is a beauty! I am assuming that this is just a red phase of the green iguana, I tried looking up info on red ones but found nothing.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.

He's a real cutie! Did it cost an arm and a leg?
But he was definitely more expensive than a green iguana. I just love how brilliant colored he is and how varried the colors are all over him.
Actually, it's fire iguana. They stay red forever.. well as much as the green ones stay green at least (colors always change a bit as they get older). : )
color veriety??? Or is there anything? Also, they are the same species, thus the same mature size, etc. as the green ones, right?
Thanks.
Yes, you would be correct. They do grow up to the same size as regular color IG. There just dogs. Chihuahua is the smame species as St. Bernard, or a German shepherd. Or another example would be, people with blond hair is the same species as people with black hair or brown hair...same thing!
wow thats realy cool i have never seen one like that before
wher can i get a re iguana

I got a red last year (end of October). All of the green on his underside is now gone.
Attached are some pics of him shortly after I bought him and around last spring (?).

AWESOME! Thanks for putting up the pictures.
No one ever had info on whether they held the red coloration as they grew and yours seems to be spreading and intensifying!
Great looking Iggy.
Remember that photos can be deceiving...part of the "intensity" has to do with using a digital camera on "autopilot". The camera adjusts the exposure based on what is in the field. Honestly to me the color looks a bit too saturated on the latter pic and washed out in his "baby" pic, but I assure you he is that red-orange-brown color. As I said the green on his belly is completely gone now. His overall color is influenced by both mood and temperature. When he's a little cold or a tad PO'ed or scared, he tends to go darker like a brownish color. When he's in a good mood and pretty warm he can be almost orange-red in color.
I've seen tidbits of misinformation on them, but just feed them a regular iguana diet and they will do fine. Best I can tell they do not need any additional "orange/red" pigmented vegetables in their food. Also saw something about due to inbreeding for the red color they were abnormally aggressive. From what I've seen with Nim, no different than any other ig. In fact of the igs I've been around and the one I previously owned, I'd say he's middle of the road to somewhat affectionate (as in likes to be touched and held).
I will have had Nim one year at the end of this month so it's time for another pic. I'll try to post it soon.

I know everybody said that the red iggy care is exactly the same as green iggy, since they are just a color morph and in fact the same species, but how about their life span? Is the changes in color the only thing that make them different? Sometimes morphs that caused by strange or rare genes pattern did not only control one thing but also bring other problems like certain kind of illness as well.
Of course I want the iggy to be healthy and long living, but I have to bring this up because the info on red iggy is really too little, or maybe too little that make me feel kinda strange. How come no one post the pics of their FULL GROWN red iggy? And I cannot find it online neither. They are rare but not "that rare" since I saw them on ad here and also I saw a couple in PetCo, how come there are so few red iggy owners out there? I guess I've only read one or two owner in total on this forum. If there are any red iggy owners and can share more info and pics of their mature red iggy would be of great help, since I'm interested in these beauties too.
Wish I knew the answer to the question, but I honestly don't. All I can say is that I will have had mine for a year in just a few more days (bought him at a PetCo for $99 on Oct. 27, 2005). His growth and development seem normal. No problems at all (yet) and he may even be a little healthier than my first iguana (Argon). However, I'm probably doing a little better job on diet than I did with Argon due to more information being available.
I would say that if you want one, go ahead and get one if you are able to meet the needs of a regular green iguana.

Don
Please do update us with your red iggy's status, it would be great to know that your iggy is doing fine and healthy, afterall the red iggy is really amazing. I would love to see how they look when they grew up, please do post a pic of the 1-year-old and I wish him(...or her?) all the best!
Nim or Nimrod is definitely a boy (or at least 90% sure due to swelling at the base of his tail like the one I had before). I checked and I do have an 8 month pic that I have uploaded and attached here. As you can see he was shedding, but the swollen area at the base of the tail was very slight and doesn't even show in this pic. Also he was not familiar with my cell phone that I used for the photo so he was all puffed up. I will take a pic on his "birthday" later this week.
L8r,
Don

how old is he when you first got him? or I should ask how "big" is he. He is a bit bigger than I expect from a 8 month old. by the way, the red color seems to be less intense and I can see some green on his back. Did his color fades as he get bigger? or is it just his mood that make him look "less red"?
does anyone know were to get red iguanas from besides petco
