Know whats cool?

Jasonguy Oct 01, 2006 05:00 AM

Finding a perfect shed in the enclosure with a new baby corn you've had for 2 weeks who hasnt shown any interest in eating. Know whats cooler? Putting him in a tupperware container with a pinky going to lunch and coming back to a very lumpy snake Ill post some pics of him when I can get the zoom on my camera to cooperate. Any advice on taking pics of little corns with a digital camera?

Yup, that's cool ...

Most digital camera's have a "macro" feature" that allows for better closeups. Taking pics while they are in their hide is a good trick. They are usually coiled up, and as you lift off the hide they will lie still for a couple quick pics before they move off.

This goes along with CKA's advise.
I will set the camera on macro....I think that would be "tulip" for Tom (herpzilla)...lol just kidding, Tom.
I will get a small container with just a thin layer of substrate (aspen in my case) and add a small water bowl. I use the water bowls that have the openings in the sides that double as hides.
I will put the snake I wish to photograph in the container and coax it under the hide.
I will give it a few minutes to settle in, get the camera ready, lift the water bowl and try to snap as many shots as possible before the little guy takes off.
Sometimes I get lucky and they are already curled up under a hide in their own containers. Then all I have to do is lift and shoot.
it usually only takes twenty or thrity shots to get one or two I like....LOL

I see by the shadow at the bottom of the pic that the lense is still getting in the way. Did you figure anything out to get rid of the shadow? Would it help to have a light kinda coming at you from the other direction, so the combo flash and light would cause no shadow? Just wondering.

Hey misty, about the only thing I have found to work is to either make sure to have a more direct instead of angled shot or back off a little.
Either way it tends to be a pain in the butt.

that sucks. The biggest problem that I am having with mine is how long it takes to actually take the picture. I guess I did not pay attention to shutter speed when I bought the camera. I looked more for the one that had the best macro "tulip" setting. Sometimes by the time my camera decides to take the pic, the moment is gone! Like I went to sea world this summer and tried to take a picture while shamu beached herself. I got one as she was jumping up, but it took so long, I could not get one of her posing, before she went back in the water. Was so bummed!!!

Yeah
I ran into that too.
My first one the nikon coolpix 3.2 was a lot quicker.
When I bought the 7.6 I just went by how much I liked the 3.2 and didn't really read up on it well enough.
Now I have the 7.6 that does take pretty good pictures but I have the trouble with the shadow and the speed.
Maybe some day if I get enough money I will have to try something else.

I have the nikon 5600 (5.1 mp) I love the photo's it takes especially outside. But it literally turns off for about 5 seconds between pictures. it is EXTREMELY annoying! Her is a pic I like with it though.

So Jimmy,

Would you buy the 3.2 again? We have not had a digital camera yet, but I would like something that can take good pictures of my snakes and our horses.

(I love the pictures you post here - I lurk a lot but hardly ever post. I have an amel male that I have had for about 13 years and he was an adult when I got him. He's a really nice snake.)

Well, I'll tell you.
If I wanted a low cost digital to use mainly for internet pictures I would get one in a heart beat. Loved mine.
The only problem with the 3.2 was trying to get pictures large enough and clear enough to print on 8 x 10.
I have several of my favorite shots framed and the 3.2 megapixels just wasn't quite enough to get quality prints.
