Basking Temp Advice Please

Mark_D Oct 01, 2006 05:15 AM

Hey Everyone,

Setting up a bigger viv for my chondro.
So far he has been in a plastic snake tub heated by heatmat.
Could you tell me what temps you aim for on your perch nearest the overhead heat source?
I will connect a dimmer or pulse stat to the top perch to get the hot spot.
Also what distance do you place the top perch from the heat source?

Thanks in advance

Mark

Mark, I don't think distance from the heat source is as important as keeping the temps right. Even then, chondros are a lot more resilient than people give them credit for. I shoot for 84-86 basking temps and ambient cage temps of 78-80. Remember, the larger the enclosure, the more difficult it can be to regulate.

Good luck.
