Just Purchased Ambilobe Panther

Ofsthun Oct 01, 2006 02:10 PM

Ok so I have a couple of questions about the Panther Chameleons. When do they usually start to get their bringt color? I don't have mine yet but it is supposed to be 5-6" total length so I got a baby. I already have the cage set up in am 18x18x36 tall screen cage from lllreptile and I also have a ficus tree with a an automatic mister and I'm going to set up a drip system since it's so dry down here in West Texas.

I'll post some pics when it gets here. How do you tell the sex of panthers?

Thanks,
Chris

At around 5 to 6 inches in length a male Ambilobe should be beginning to show some color. A Panther that size should be around 3 to 4 months old, maybe more. The males are the ones that show bright colors, the females are usually drabber shades of tan to brown, but all Panthers start out that way. Males develop Rostrums ( a growth on the end of the nose) and a hemipenal bulge in the vent region. Where did you get your Ambilobe? You should have specified that you wanted a male if you wanted a colorful one.

I did specify that I wanted a Male and they said that they would do their best but they couldn't garantee it because they are so young. They said that they are 5-6" total length including the tail. I'm getting it from lllreptile and I got a picture of the father.
