Leopard Gecko/Armadillo Lizard

Grunngg Oct 01, 2006 03:25 PM

If I provided a large cage with plenty of hides, could I put my Armadillo Lizard with my Leopard Gecko? Theyre both about the same size.

It is generally accepted that you shouldn't mix species in any way. However, should you have a large, long enclosure, you may be able to erect a solid divider and turn one enclosure into two.

sleepy is correct - it is generally bad to mix species. about the only time you can get away with it is if the two species have identical or near-identical environmental needs, are of similar size, eat similar food, *and* (and this is a big one) are not aggressive toward each other. the really tough thing about it is that it's hard to know if aggression will occur without putting them together, and then you're taking the chance that you might have to break up a fight. (obviously possible that this could be hazardous to one or both lizards and your hands.) since you've already got enclosures for both of them, there's no real need to mix them, therefore i'd recommend against it.

i know everyone says dont mix anything together and some say u can if everything is the same and u have a big enough encloser. I have the leopard gecko book by ron tremper and philippe de vosjoli (the herpetocilture of leopard geckos) and in this book theres a capter about mixing liz with leopard geckos and the main lizard they talk about is with the amadillo lizard. they said they have done it with great success. I mean u should have a tank with plenty of hides and the right temps but it can be done and was done successfully with the armadilllo lizard.
