I was just thinking the same thing! I'd like to get some of those!
Congratulations on that sweet critter.
Lookin' good! Enjoy raising her up to a 6 ft. beauty.
Her mother is just shy of 8' and her father is just shy of 9'. She should surpass the 6' mark by her second year! ;0)
D. m rubidus are not small Drys, as the male I received from the GPZ would have been well over 9', had a good portion of his tail not been lost when the folks attmpting to smuggle him into the US hid him beneath the hood of their car and he weighs just over 20 pounds!
My smallest adult D. m rubidus is a 7.5' female...
Best regards,
Jeff

I beleave that is the Gladys Porter Zoo.
Jeff,
Here is a picture of one of your '05 males. I think he is well
on his way to become a 8 foot plus monster.

I knew I should have kept that one! ;0)
That is the result of the impeccable care you have provided for him and I look forward to seeing how the female turns out. I too believe you will have a couple of 8 – 9’ monsters on your hands in the future!
Thanks for the updated photo!

did he hatch in 2005?
If you are referring to the male Alan has posted, he is an '05 sibling to your '05 male.

Jeff,
My boy is pretty big, but I don't think he's that big. He's eating 3 large mice every 3 days which seems to be perfect. I need to get some new pics and a measurment. Rubidus are such awesome animals!
Thanks,
Mike
I look forward to seeing some photos of him, Mike. Have you tried switching him to rats yet? I have noticed better growth among my Drys when using a diet primarily of rats, though I like to supplement their diet with fish, to reduce skin issues and promote good ecdysis, quail, chicken, bull frogs and rabbits. I do offer mice every once in a while, as a treat.
There was some discussion a while back regarding the appearance and disposition of rubidus. There were a few folks who harbored the impression rubidus are not attractive and harbor poor dispositions. While I have one that is a bit "sheepish", I believe they are truly some of the most personable and attractive members of the Dry clan and the input and photos provided by both yourself and Alan are testimony to such...

Jeff

Jeff,
Thanks. Sounds like it's time to transition to small rats. As for disposition, he is a completely tame animal. One of the most personable snakes I've ever owned.
Thanks,
Mike
Mike,
My '05 Rubidus eats like a pig and has ever since I received him from Jeff. I feed him heavy on mice , chicks, quail, fish, and rabbit pinks. He is just over 4 1/2 feet. Very tame Funny thing is he dosen't care for rats of any size.
Alan B

I have a couple that appear not to prefer rats, but they will eat themwithout any issues. I did have one female that started out taking rats only if they were scented with mice, but she eventually came around.
I would be inclined to believe you would get even better growth results with rabbits over rats.
Thanks for the photos, Alan. I may have to bring you down to photograph my collection sometime. Perhaps when the mottled babies are ready?
