Attacking Leopard Gecko.

brokenbody Oct 01, 2006 10:01 PM

My male leo is a year and a few months old. He has this thing of attacking everything and anything that is put in his tank including are hands. Is there any way of trying to stop him from nipping at are hands. We have tryed the just putting your hand in the tank for a few mins each day and we still get attacked.
Any tips would help.
Thanks!

OH and this is what he looks like can anyone tell what kind of leo he is? if not its ok.

hmm.... My male starts biting me when I startle him. I say hold him, take his bites (im not sure how hard he bites but if you can take it, take it for awhile and show him that you are no harm to him.

Geckos don't in general like to be held, but they do like the warmness. A healthy gecko will bite a and run around crazy and such.

And another thing, I have heard If your trying to hold him during the day, he might be cracky. Try being active with your gecko at night when there more in the mood.

I personally don't like being bothered while im asleep, and some leopard geckos are the same way. All leopard geckos have habits and individually act the way they want. Like people.

Hard to tell... He might be some form of Albino, unless the lighting is wrong or hes sheeding.

You can tame it by handfeeding them. I'd break off the crickets' back legs offer them to my leos with tweezers; I tried it with the giant mealworms (zoophobas),also. This seems to work with taming them down.

Thanks for the help. i don't usually bother him during the day only after 7pm. Unlike my female she's up all the timeno matter what time it is.
I will try and hand feed him crickets. But he won't touch the mealworms. he just walks up to them licks them and then walks away from it. Do you know of any what that i could get him to start eating them along with the crickets?.

Never heard of leo that doesnt eat both. Once again this is one of those times where the leo has a mind of its own.

Heres what I would do, either feed them 1 or the other. Not both even tho that seems logic. Mealworms and Crickets have the same as far as energy and nutrients. THATS ACCORDING TO REPTILEFOOD.COM

(AND JUST AS A NOTE, I HAVE NEVER HAD A LEO THAT DOESNT EAT BOTH SO THIS IS JUST A GUESS)
As I was saying, if you want him to eat mealworms, don't give him that choice of crickets. If you do, then hes going to take what looks better without trying the other.(kind of like my little sister). Hes going to get Hungry, and if he sees the mealworms are his only option, someones going to find out that mealworms arent as bad they may look.

And if your leo ends up being stubbord, you can do either 2 things.
1.)Serve both Meals and Crickets
2.)Strictly Crickets knowing that everyone will eat them.

And just as a next note, if crickets do in fact have certain vitamins and stuff in it that mealworms dont, by the vitamins seperately. Rep Cal, or whatever. =)
