heffner2212 Oct 01, 2006 10:43 PM

Well im not going to fweed my boa live but on wedsday when she does get her first meal by me it will be 2m mice i was thinking of stunning her prey instead of killing then just dropping it in the cage with her while its stunned....or should i hold it with tongs in front of her face sometimes i dont like doing that because i think it is better for them to hunt prey naturally with a slight advantage from me of course by stunning thwe prey but what is the best way to do it....Ps: i wuill not feed f/t from asome reason i just cant dethawe and i suck at it plus i have nowhere to keep them, frozen anyway..

Captive animals dont need to hunt prey
Yes kill the prey completely before feeding
Feed the "proper size"prey and there shouldnt be a need to use two items.
Not sure where that "wait fifteen minutes" idea was spawned, but it shouldnt be practiced.
The reading of quality care sheets and other capitve data "before" purchaseing animals would be the best thing.

It's funny. You say you're not going to feed live. If you "stun it" it's still alive. It can wake up and bite your snake.

The only way to not feed live is to feed dead; either fresh killed or frozen/thawed.

stunning doesn't last, then you sometimes have a really pissed off rat that will give you scars and vet bills and could even kill your snake. Years ago when we didn't know anything we did that, now we know better. If you ignore all this advice and you feed stunned anyway, watch the whole time the snake is eating and have a big stick in your hand in case the rat starts attacking the snake, and be prepared to bash it's head in, if it starts to attack your snake. Are you getting the picture here? (Frozen is way better yet, even if it means you have to buy a freezer. It would pay for itself in time since f/t is cheaper too. It wouldn't take much for you to leatn how to thaw them properly either).

If the first rat is the correct size there is no need to feed a second. If you want a bigger snake, buy a bigger snake. Don't jeopardize the health of your snake by pushing it with 2 rats when one correct sized rat is all it needs.
