Breeding question

phiber_optikx Oct 01, 2006 11:50 PM

I was just curious for everyone's opinion/breeding history.

Keep in mind that there is still a considerable amount of time before breeding season. Do you think a 3' 185g male black rat has any chance of succesfully courting a 1153g 4'7" female?

It's worth a shot. By 4 feet, he's ready. Whether she'll let him or not is another matter. I know by the way my black rats go, if my male weren't bigger than the female, he wouldn't have had a chance last year. As it is, he mated her multiple multiple times this year, and I only ever saw copulation once.

Just watch them closely while they're together, to make sure she doesn't turn on him & eat him.

I would say yes.
He is kind of on the small side but if she'll let him Im sure he'll have what it takes...so-to-speak....lol
You going to brumate them? I hope...

I am hoping he will perform when he time comes. I am not sure about brumation yet... The female is possibly having some medical problems so I may not even attempt to breed her. I am hoping she will be better by spring. She is originally wc so she may decide to brumate herself. She has already had a decreased appetite. The male (Chunk) could really use the extra growth over the winter but I don't want to cripple his "swimmers" I have an insulated garage but don't really know the temp range throughout the winter. I may just put them in for few weeks if it looks promising. What is the shortest brumation you have had success with? But just to stay ahead of myself how about you give me a motley cream for a 1.1 het albino black rat?
