Blood trails..........

midnightherps Oct 02, 2006 10:36 AM

I put my two year old het pied male in with a two year old het pied female a few days ago(both have never been breed). A couple days later I notice little spots of blood, not fecies, blood, on the substrate. I use unprinted newspaper so its pretty obvious. I checked both snakes for injuries. Nothing. The female is extrememly shy and it doesnt seem like the male has any interest so far. Could this be some kind of hormonal issue with the female (assuming it came from her) getting ready to--for a lack of better terms--go into heat?

Ball pythons after they mate can leave little droplets of blood. As long as it isn't alot of blood, shouldn't be a concern.

Wow how interesting. I havent seen any lock ups with this pair but are the littlte trickles of blood a good indication that they have been shackin up?

Have you ever seen the picture of a hemipene erect? They sometimes look like a medival weapon. They can occasionally do a very small amount of tissue damage if the pair doesn't seperate in a peaceful manner. I have had males dragged around by their attachment to the female. Can you say OUCH?
