Grass in outdoor enclosures?

AndrewFromSoCal Oct 02, 2006 02:47 PM

Has anyone had any experience with planting glass in their enclosures? I don't know what to put in there, and my russian doesn't seem to be eating the roses or lettuce i've been giving him, but when I put him out in the back he chomps away like no problem. He has eaten some of his aloe vera, but that looks like it.

Suggestions?

My russians would eat grass, you could see it in their droppings, but not enough to keep it under control. I had to trim the grass down several times a year. I finally added more flat rocks to reduce the amount of grass.

I tried planting clover seed, but the plants were completely consumed before long. Now that's when there were 4 adults in the pen. It could be that with only one tort you might be able to keep a fresh crop.

I found it easier to leave the pen area alone, aside from grass trimming, and just pull weeds out of the rest of the yard. In my yard you can find wild violets, dandelions, clover, wild strawberry, henbit and a couple other things the torts like. Of course you can't use chemicals in the areas where you gather tortoise food!
