jag question

jnutz Oct 02, 2006 05:40 PM

ive been thinking about getting one, but i have a couple questions maybe some of you guys could help me out with. they are a recessive trait in coastals correct? so does that mean that an adult jag will attain the same length of an adult coastal? adult coastals get about 8- 10 feet, right? how much would young jag cost about? ive seen them for $300 but ive read that people pass off jcp's or IJ's as jag. that price sounded kind of low, so i was wondering if that was poossibly the case. thanks in advance.

Ok, First of all, do more research, a snake thats $3000 Is not being sold for $300 unless its not it, somethings wrong etc. By far more importantly Its not a Recessive trait its a co-dom/dom triat.

Jaguars Are Coastal carpets (not all, but the majority are coastals and most people will market the other species as the other species) so they should have the same lengths. Why would the carpet having a pattern and color mutation change its growth rate?

Do more homework.

There arent many Jaguars around, so when you buy it buy it from the right people, I.e. WIll Leary, Spitfire Reptiles, Anthony C, Theres not going to be a difference in price, and even if it is, its a $3000-3500 snake so when its thousands an extra couple hundred doesn't really matter.

I wish you safe and happy herping, don't buy the $300 one i can already tell you thats a bad decision, unless there not selling it as a jag.

a) Not all Coastals get big.
b) All True Jags can trace their pedigree back to the original jag at the JBC.
c) There are some that are cheaper than the $3000-$4000 level. We have one left under 2K, and others under $3K.
d) There are a ridiculous number of fake "jags" on the market. These may be pretty, but they are not jags. They will not produce Jags, and in all likihood will not color up as intensely as jags. Also only real Jags will produce Leucistic carpets.
e) As was said earlier, the Jag trait behaves in a mostly dominant fashion.

Do not buy into hype, etc....there are no 'het jags' there are however 'het con-artists'. lol

Good luck-
