500 gram male wont eat!

snakeball Oct 02, 2006 08:37 PM

He became really picky when he got around the 400 gram range. I have another 700 gram male that did the same. Is this because of wanting to breed? I have a 6 drawer rack with 3 males and 3 females. Should males and females be in seperate racks? Temps are 80 cool 90 hot side.

well if he was 400 when he got picky and has put on another 100g then I'd say he's just being a ball python. They eat when they want to eat. Unless he's getting really thin I wouldn't worry about it. If you want a snake that will eat every 4 days year round, buy some colubrids.

what about sharing a rack with males and females? is this too close? as far as the male going off feed because he can smell the female and would rather breed than eat.

I doubt it but it's possible. I have a couple racks that have males and females in them. Right now the males are pounding rats and alot of females are starting to take breaks of like 2-3 weeks between feedings.
