Slugs and Premies

Jeff Clark Oct 03, 2006 01:47 AM

....Around 1AM this morning one of my Y2K female BRBs laid a litter of 12 slugs and 4 premature babies. The babies look like they will not make it. It looks like they were delivered about a week too soon. They have not completely colored up yet. They are still alive and breathing while still attached to large yolk sacs. I will keep them misted and see what happens. It looked like this was going to be a good year. Still got a few more gravid females to go. Hoping for better results.

It has been really weird here as well, only two litters out of a possible 7 have dropped and it's October already.

on the other litters. I had some slug and still born issues this year as well (more than usual), but also had several perfect litters (no slugs or stillborn babies).

I wish I could figure this out, as it is a shame for a female to work so hard to produce babies, and they all end up infertile or dead.

We are all wishing you luck for the next litters...BHH

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you on the rest of your clutches.

Jeff,

Hopefully your luck will turn. Also, hope you start getting some sleep! All of your posts about clutches talk about them happening during the wee hours of the morning.

...Thanks, I am actually having an okay year so far. These next few litters can make the difference between okay and good. I am nocturnal. I have been working a couple nights a week for the last 9 years. I stay up most nights. The advantage to being nocurnal is that I get to see lots of things at night with my snakes when they are the most active. The big disadvantage is that I am grouchy during daylight hours. Come to think of it I am grouchy at night too. I am thinking about posting another "git er done" ad on the classifieds and telling people if they are too stupid to read my ad and have to send endless emails asking questions that are answered in the ad I do not want to deal with them.
Life is good!
Jeff
