herping in ILLINOIS

im going down to southern IL to go herping over the weekend. ill be camping in some forrest in Perryville, IL and i was wondering if anyone knows of good places down there were i could capture lizards? or if just road-side herping is just the best. thanx.

I dont quite know where Perryville IL is. Is it close to Carbondale or more towards central Illinois. Get back to my on that, in the meen while check out this site... www.chicagoherp.org

Perryville is about 20 miles northeast of Carbondale. so if this helps thanx.

I dont know about that area but if you can I would try to make it down to the Shawnee area, preferably the Pine Hills area. You can find just about everything there. Check out that website, it isnt 100percent correct but it will give you a general idea. Where are you from?

The LaRue-Pine Hills Ecological Area in the Shawnee National Forest is, indeed, a great place to go herping, particularly in the spring and autumn. Please be aware, however, that it is not the place to “capture lizards” or anything else. Collecting is not allowed there.
