Was told he was a Mali Uromastyx and want to make sure that is what he is. Also, does he look healthy? He is about 8 inches long. It took him awhile to get ajusted and seems to be eating well now. Thanks

Not sure if its a Mali or not but it does look pretty skinny!
If you think he's skinny, what recommendations can you give me?? I was thinking of mixing tofu with his veggies cause he won't touch crickets. I did have a big problem with him not eating when I first got him but now he seems to be eating, just not that much. I know he needs a bigger cage, I'm building him one. I made him more cage deco and he comes out of his hiding spot more now(he used to hardly come out at all.) He has a basking area and I have done a mix of sand, eco earth, and some moss I had to give him about 4 inches. I just did the mix tonight for the substrate so I will take any advice. His basking temp is 110 now, it had been lower. I feel like I'm doing a horrible job with him but there doesn't seem to be anyone local I can talk with about caring for him. I learn better through interaction than just reading. I love him alot and want to make the best living for him. I know the living spot I make his should be 4x his size. I'll take any suggestions. Sorry if I sound like an idiot, I'm (obviously) new to uros. He is also starting to shed.
I don't usually get involved with husbandry/care advise here because there are others on this forum far more qualified to give suggestions.
But, I'll throw this out for what it's worth.
Raise the basking temp to at least 120, make sure you're using a spot light. Offer your UV light at a distance ( 12" ) to be effective (assuming normal strip lights) . Provide no protein yet. Give him a bowl of mixed greens ( turnips, mustards, bok choy, endives, romaine & some baby green peas ) sprinkled with bee pollen & spray moistened. Supplement with 1:1 Rep-Cal/HerpVite. If you've kids or pets that might distract, provide a cover or remove to a secluded location. If you like your radio or TV at more than low volume, same advice.
All I've got!
It does look like a Mali to me - but i am relatively new to Uro's myself...my young mali is just one year old...but i have had him for almost that whole time.
i would definately raise the basking temps to 120degrees, and make sure you have a good quality UVB bulb that is les than 6months old.
In addition to all the veggies you offer (good veggies include bok choy, collard, dandelion, mustard and turnip greens, endive or escarole) you should try offering some seeds/beans.
For my uro i offer fresh veggies daily but also always have a dish that contains: white millet seeds, soup mix beans ground up in a coffee grinder (after removing large kidney beans), rep-cal iguana pellets and pretty bird finch pellets...my uro LOVES this mix!
Good luck and keep us posted

The dried beans & peas are an important part of the diet but, not when your Uro may be hurting for hydration. Hold off on the proteins until it's up & running on greens. When he's not wrinkled up anymore, then, most definitely start introducing a wide variety of "seed" items. We use a mix of parakeet feed, buckwheat groats, oat groats, barley, crushed beans/lentils, mung beans, bulghar wheat, bee pollen, etc.
Best of luck!
