Blood in musk?

waspinator421 Oct 04, 2006 12:51 AM

I am concerned about my female cal king. She is a regular musker, and sometimes there is a little blood with it. Is this normal? I didn't know if it might have something to do with cycling? If it isn't normal, any ideas what it could be?

Thanks for your time!

It can be - depends on the snake. Several species will squirt/ooze/smear blood as a defence. However, this is not something kings are known for. I would get her checked for parasites - especially worms - by a competent herp vet.

Good Luck,

I wouldn’t say it's the norm, but they can and do expel blood when musking.

Of my 40 or so babies, I have three females that will do this every now and then.

I personally, don’t think you have anything at all to worry about.

She seems perfectly normal otherwise, and still eats and poops like normal. If you say it happens once in a while I won't worry about it. But if it becomes frequent, I'll have her checked out. Thanks for the help!
